How to open a UBL or Peppol invoice on Apple devices
UBL and Peppol invoices are built for interoperable business exchange. They contain structured supplier, customer, tax and line data, but a raw XML view makes routine checking unnecessarily difficult.
If the document does not display as expected
Keep the original filename and check that the download is complete. Renaming XML, P7M or ASiC files to PDF does not convert them. If a signed container opens, check the type of its extracted payload: it may be an invoice, PDF or another format requiring its own reader.
For an invoice, compare the document identifier, supplier, currency, tax and total with the original fields. Report an unsupported format with its non-sensitive format/version details; avoid sending private documents unless you choose an appropriate support channel.
From difficult file to readable document.
- 01
Save the source XML
Download the invoice from your portal, accounting system or email. Avoid renaming or editing the source before opening it.
- 02
Open it on-device
Select the file in EU Document Opener. Supported UBL Invoice, Credit Note and Peppol BIS Billing declarations are identified locally.
- 03
Check the important fields
Review parties, identifiers, dates, currency, payment information, line items, allowances, charges, taxes and totals where present and supported.
UBL is a syntax; Peppol adds business rules
UBL 2.1 defines XML structures used by many invoice networks and national profiles. Peppol BIS Billing builds a constrained business specification on top of supported syntaxes.
A file can declare a profile without necessarily conforming to every rule. EU Document Opener reports what it detects but does not certify network or national compliance.
Useful when you are away from accounting software
A mobile viewer is helpful when an invoice arrives in Files, Mail or a shared folder and you need a quick human-readable check. On Mac, the same workflow can support desktop review and local PDF export.
Keep the machine-readable original
A readable rendering helps people, while the XML remains the source used by business systems. Retain that source for import, audit, archiving and any national obligations that apply.
